Aldwickbury School is a magnificent independent Pre-Prep and Prep School for boys set on the picturesque outskirts of Harpenden. The school has superb facilities and is one of the best schools in the area.  

Pre-Prep

The Pre-Preparatory department is a purposeful, happy and friendly place for boys aged 4-7 years. Aldwickbury have nine small classes, with three parallel classes in each year group. At the age of 7, boys move into Year 3 at the Prep School. The beautiful, stimulating grounds and well structured curriculum provide an environment for Aldwickbury boys to flourish both socially and academically in the boys pre-prep school. The school encourage self-expression linked to self-discipline, as well as a caring attitude and respect for others. Aldwickbury recognise the importance of a boy’s early steps into education and focus on instilling a love of learning. The school aim to inspire and build confidence in a caring and secure environment. A co-operative partnership between home and school is vital in building a firm foundation for the success of all boys.

Prep School

After pre-prep boys move into the boys Prep School at the end of Year 2. In Years 3 – 5 the boys are in small classes with a Form Teacher who looks after their pastoral care as well as teaches them for the majority of their lessons. Specialist teaching in a wide range of subjects starts from Year 5 with the younger years enjoying subjects that include music, art and Physical Education with the specialist teacher. From Year 6 the boys are placed with a Tutor who will monitor a boy's pastoral and academic progress for his remaining years at the school. Boys stay at Aldwickbury for Year 7 and 8 where they flourish as independent learners and take on positions of leadership with the school community.

Boarding 

When boys board at Aldwickbury the aim is to ensure that the boys receive a high quality of care which enables them to grow in confidence, within a supportive and positive environment. The boys will feel part of a community, which makes it easier for them to make his mark, to take responsibility and be an essential part of the various activities. The school ethos is dependent on the way the boys respect and look out for each other. A chance to get involved in the boarding community, even for day boys, is hard to miss. A full activity programme is an integral part of the boys boarding school, with a range of opportunities available including music, sport, drama and educational trips.

Curriculum 

Aldwickbury School believe that all boys should feel secure, cared for and respected. This atmosphere is essential to ensure that boys are in the best frame of mind to learn and make academic progress. The curriculum that the school offer is broad, varied, well-balanced and challenging. It encompasses academic lessons and is supplemented by the creative arts as well as physical activities. It also includes a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities that the school offers in order to enrich the experience of the boys.
